A field-effect transistor (FET) is a type of transistor generally used for weak-signal amplification (for example, for amplifying wireless signals). The device can amplify analogue or digital signals. It can also switch DC or function as an oscillator.  In the FET, current flows along a semiconductor path called the channel. At one end of the channel, there is an electrode called the source.  At the other end of the channel, there is an electrode called the drain.  The physical diameter of the channel is fixed, but its effective electrical diameter can be varied by the application of a voltage to a control electrode called the gate. The conductivity of the FET depends, at any given instant in time, on the electrical diameter of the channel.

Global Field Effect Transistor (FET) Market Segments Size & Growth:

Global field effect transistor (FET) market size is projected to reach approximately $XX billion by the end of 2024 with a CAGR of close to XX% from $XX billion in 2017 during the forecast timeline 2018-2024. Key parameters promoting the market growth include a rise in the energy cost and energy usage, increasing adoption of consumer electronics, increased adoption of super junction MOSFET, and growing demand for power-efficient electronic products utilising MOSFET structure. However, the high cost of super-junction MOSFET semiconductor devices is thereby hindering the market growth. Growing need for miniaturisation of semiconductor devices and shift towards renewable energy are some of the various opportunities emerging from the global field effect transistor market.

Increasing use of electronic products perceives globally, especially in smartphones and tablets. The electronics market which includes smartphones, tablets, and others is furthermore projected to witness high growth during the forecast period. Electronics products being a major application of field effect transistors will, therefore, propel the growth of global field effect transistor market.

Global Field Effect Transistor (FET) Market Segments Share:

Global Field Effect Transistor (FET) Market is categorized into a product which comprises Junction field effect transistor (JFET), and Metal–oxide–semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET). Among them, MOSFETs segment holds the largest share in the market because of wide applications in TVs, notebooks, smartphones, and Others. By applications, the market is segmented into analogue switches, amplifiers, phase shift oscillator, current limiter, digital circuits, and others. By Geography, Asia-Pacific is projected to hold the largest share in the market accounting for a market share of around 54% because of the rapid growth of the consumer electronics industry in this region is a significant factor leading to the growth of the market in APAC. The extensive use of super-junction MOSFETs in flat TVs, smartphones, notebook computers, and mobile phone adapters is another factor leading to the strong growth of this market in the region.

Global Field Effect Transistor (FET) Market Trends:

  • Mitsubishi Electric Corporation to launch high-efficiency, low-power consumption metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor for 2-way radios.
  • Infineon Technologies AG demonstrated new tunnelling field effect transistors enabling scalable ultra-low voltage processes in standard silicon technology.
